How to Prevent Ringworm — Do's & Don'ts

DO:

  • Wear sandals or flip flops in locker rooms, gyms, public showers and in pool areas to avoid picking up the fungus that causes ringworm.
  • Wash or shower straightaway after exercising or playing sports. Then dry yourself thoroughly and dress in clean, dry clothes.
  • Keep cool and dry, especially in hot, humid environments. Wear breathable materials and loose-fitting clothing to help prevent excessive sweating and chafing.
  • Use LamisilAF Defense Spray Powder to absorb extra moisture.
  • Wash towels and bed linen frequently using hot water — 60ºC in the washing machine — to kill fungal spores.

DONT:

  • Share clothing, towels, combs, hairbrushes and other personal items.
  • Use shared athletic equipment without cleaning it first.
  • Wear workout clothes more than once. Wash clothing in hot water to kill any fungal spores present.
  • Touch infected pets or animals. Tinea corporis looks like a patch of discolored or missing fur on animals. If you do touch a pet with ringworm, immediately wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
  • Pick or scratch the affected area if you have ringworm. Remember to wash hands thoroughly after applying ringworm treatment to avoid spreading the fungus to other areas of your body.
